Starfinder receives support from the PHL-COVID 19 Fund

May 28, 2020

We’re honored to share that Starfinder has received a PHL COVID-19 Fund grant.

A collaboration between United Way Of Greater Philadelphia And Southern New Jersey, The Philadelphia Foundation, and the City of Philadelphia, the PHL COVID-19 Fund is providing financial assistance to nonprofits like ours during the coronavirus crisis. The PHL COVID-19 Fund provides grants to nonprofits throughout the Greater Philadelphia region that have a demonstrated track record of serving those most at-risk during this crisis, such as seniors, people with disabilities, and those who are experiencing homeless or who are economically disadvantaged.

The population Starfinder serves is vulnerable in terms of access to educational resources, technology, healthcare, financial security, and more. Many of our youth were already at risk of isolation by language, culture, and socio-economic status. The COVID-19 crisis is exacerbating all of this.

Thanks to this grant, Starfinder can continue to serve youth throughout the pandemic with daily and weekly virtual programming, mentor outreach, guidance on resources and self care, and distributing laptops and soccer equipment. We are helping our youth reduce social isolation, stay active, cope with anxiety, and maintain structure and a strong community in their lives.
