UNICEF Tap Project
Youth in the Senior Leaders Program challenged themselves this past March to spread awareness about the global scarcity of drinkable water and
the need for better sanitation infrastructure. The Tap Project is a UNICEF initiative that aims to improve access to safe water and sanitation facilities in schools and communities while promoting safe hygiene practices in more than 100 countries around the world.
The Senior Leaders met over a six week period with two Leader Corp members from University Community Collaborative of Philadelphia (UCCP) to create events to raise funds for UNICEF and increase awareness about the global crisis regarding safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.
The youth sold bottled water at local school events. The bottles were wrapped with specially designed labels that informed the purchaser about the global scarcity of drinkable water and poor sanitation facilities.
The six week program culminated with the participating Senior Leaders presenting their project to the younger students in the Future and Junior Leaders program. The presentation included a water purification activity that illustrated how citizens of less developed communities collect, treat and purify rain and runoff water.
